Community Networks: Bridging the Digital Divide
In the Digital Era of internet and technology, we encountered that there are areas where making a phone call needs a person to walk some kilometers up the hill to get a signal. That’s where we thought of intervening to make things better which brought Community Networks.
Our team came up with a low cost community WIFI with free internet to all. Along with this we also set up some offline services, where people of that village/area can connect to a common network and use those services. Some of the services are listed below.
- Internet Connection
- Digital Library
- Voice Calls
- Chat Messenger
- File Sharing
- Internet Radio
- Website Hosting
- Video Streaming
- Calendar
Empowering Communities with Offline Resources
Recognizing the limited internet availability in some areas, we went a step further by creating a rich offline server filled with valuable content. This repository includes Creative Commons-licensed educational materials, Agriculture related and some more which are useful to the people of the village, in a offline server which public can access without internet.
Impact and Vision
To bridge the digital divide and enable people in remote areas to become part of the global digital community. By providing these essential services and resources, we’re fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and empowerment.
Community Networks are not just about connecting devices. They’re about connecting people, ideas, and opportunities. With every village we reach, we’re building a future where no one is left behind in the information age. Together, we’re creating a world where connectivity is a right, not a privilege.
